Daily Prompt: Reverse Shot – A First Memory

I watch the little girl who has come with her father to  see me.  She stands with her back against the wall, her eyes wide with excitement as she watches the firefighters of my department sliding down the pole and racing for the trucks in the bay.

Her father had come to drop off some paperwork bringing his young daughter with him.  I had been giving her a tour of the station and we had gotten to the bay where the firetrucks are kept when the alarms went off.  Without I, or her father, saying anything she backs up to the wall out of the way and watches.

I wonder what the future holds for this young girl.  What will she decide to do with her self as she grows older?  Will she become a firefighter or perhaps an EMT.  Either way, I can see she has an interest the fire service in what we do.

This was done in response to today’s Daily Prompt Reverse Shot.  I wrote it from the POV of Chief or Captain (?) Randy who worked for (if memory serves correctly) for the Springfield Fire Department (in the mid 1970’s).  Note: I do not remember for sure if he was Captain or Chief.  I wrote based on what I imagine he could have been thinking, though I did take some dramatic liberties.

#DailyPost: Free Write

Today’s Daily Post is a 10 minute “Free Write”…  No stops, No Pauses, No Edits….  Go

The difficulty I’m having here is knowing where to start….  or rather what to write about.  I’m sure there are many things I could come up with.  As I sit here trying to figure out what I should say,  I am watching old episodes of Air Crash Investigation on You tube.  It is amazing how much the show can teach about importance of Situational Awareness…  I will say that watching such shows are probably not in one’s best interest if planning on a flight in near future (but as this is not the case for me, I am good – right?!?).

Back to the show…  I am currently on Season 11 Episode 11 (the final episode will be Season 13 Episode 11- Getting Out Alive.  There’s actually a Season 14, but when I looked  didn’t see any episodes showing).

I can’t believe I’m down to only 3 minutes…  All that time and I’ve only gotten as far as one short paragraph…. Sad ;-(

There are other Air Crash Investigations related shows to watch  such as Confidential….  And then there is “Seconds from Disaster”

30 seconds left  and again I am stuck… 10… 9… 8…7……. 2… 1…  There goes my timer.

#DailyPrompt: Kindness of Strangers

Today’s Daily Prompt is “Kindness of Strangers” (check out original post).

One time of kindness by a stranger that really sticks in my mind was the time when me and my husband were at a store (Home goods store of some sort, I believe).  A lady walks up to us and says that The Lord had told her that she should give us some money ($20).  At first we (at least I) was uncomfortable.  I’m not the best at accepting gifts and such from others.  Perhaps it’s the part of me that feels like  I don’t deserve or something.  At first I think we (my husband and I) were reluctant, but in the end we did – Thanking her profusely.  In truth we were having financial difficulties at that point and that $20 was a huge help to us.

Looking back, it was an amazing thing to see someone listening to what God was telling them to do….  To go up and give to a total stranger.

I’ll leave you with this:  Hearing God’s Voice:  Milk and a Baby. Whether it’s true or not (or something I think is a good idea to do) I don’t know, but still…  A Powerful Message.

What Happened to the Daily Prompts from Daily Post

Until recently the Daily Post “New Post” notifications I got in my email box via Word Press included Daily Prompts, Weekly Writing Prompts, and Weekly Photo Prompts….  Lately I’m noticing none of those…  Sure I still get notifications of new posts but none of the above is included….  So now I have to remember each day to go to the Daily Post blog and look for the prompts….  Ummmm that’s what I was using the eMail notifications for – as a reminder.  I’m always checking my eMails – I don’t always remember to go to all the blogs I’m following to see if they posted that day.   I have to say #FAIL on that one!!!  Don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking Daily Post, just wish the daily & weekly writing/photo prompts were still showing up in my eMail box.

I don’t always have something to blog about for each daily prompt…..  And April was especially with the A-to-Z Challenge….  But I look (or rather looked) forward to seeing what was there and seeing if there was something that might cue a post.

Guess The Daily Prompt posting is going to be even more hit and miss than it was before  since I have to rely on the other blogs I’m following to know what the day’s Prompt is (which means I may not even know till the end of the day or days later)  😦

#DailyPrompt: Time after Time

This is actually for yesterday’s Daily Prompt:

One thing I find funny (ok maybe that’s not the best word description) is how some people are so against traditions. Like it’s somehow a bad/negative thing. Every “religious group”, from Christianity to Muslim to Judaism, has traditions. It is through those traditions that we teach our kids & make things come to life for them.

I can’t tell you the number of times, in the past, that we’ve been amongst messianic folks who have the attitude of “we don’t want anything to do with “Traditions” – the whole if we can’t find in the bible, we don’t want it (Talmud, etc doesn’t count). Ummmm, HELLO!!!, what about the traditions you find in Christianity (which is where many of these folks come from) and Yes, they do exist.

Traditions are necessary for explaining & teaching to our kids, for bringing religious culture (regardless of where it stems from) to life.
