Words Have Power

Every day people speak…  speak to them selves, speak to others.  Speak to family, to friends, to co-workers, to strangers.  But do we ever stop and really think about the words we say.   Words (whether spoken or written) are far more than just sounds coming from our lips or written on paper.  Words have meaning, have power.

Have you ever said something in anger then immediately come back with “I didn’t mean that”.  Yes,  the apology was made, but the words are still out there (sorry no takesy backsys); and while the person to whom the words were spoken may have accepted your apology, chances are the original words will remain in the back of their mind.

I don’t recall any of the details of  how/when/where I heard this, but there was a study done once on the affect of words on frozen water.  Two separate containers of water were set out.  On one words positive words and praise were spoken – On the other, negative words, curses, and criticism.  When viewed under a microscope the positive one was relatively clear and unblemished while the negative one was all broken up and full of blemishes.  Similar studies have also been done to show affects of positive vs negative speaking on the growth of plants.

Be careful of the words you say, especially those spoken in the heat of anger.  Once the words leave your mouth (or are written on paper) they cannot truly be taken back.
