#Writing 101:

Today’s Writing 101 Assignment is to:

“You’re told that an event that’s dear to your heart — an annual fair, festival, or conference — will be cancelled forever (or taken over by an evil organization). Write about it.

For your twist, read your piece aloud, multiple times. Hone that voice of yours!”

Melanie couldn’t believe her eyes as she scrolled through her facebook feed.  Several of her Fire/EMS friends had liked, shared, and commented on posts all saying that the local Firefighter Fund Bash (the one that took place every year to support the local volunteer fire stations as well as helping those who had been injured on the job and the widows & orphans of those who had died in the Line of Duty) was being taken over by an organization who’s goal was to do away with all volunteer fire departments forcing the small community to be solely covered by that of the larger city fire department.

Not wanting to be rash and believe something  just because it was plastered all over FaceBook, Melanie opened up a new window in her browser and did a search for “Firefighter Fund Bash” and “Take Over”…  Sure enough several sites, including a number of well-known reputable sites, had articles relating to the new take-over.

Melanie was outraged.  “This can’t happen”  she thought to herself,  If that organization takes over the bash will be a shambles….  No doubt this is just another of their plans to make a laughing stock of the annual bash and the local volunteer fire department.”

Her outrage growing, Melanie opened up her word processing program to pen an article on what she thought, followed by a letter to the editor of the local paper.

This is a work of fiction, written for the  above Writing 101 Assignment for today
