Five Sentence Fiction: Companion

Been a while since I’ve done one of these…. This week’s Five Sentence Fiction word (or prompt) is Companion:

Burrowed photo from Lillie McFerrin.

Fifteen years the curly haired pup had been her companion. Fifteen years it stayed constantly by her side.

Jacalyn recalled the day she had seen the tiny pup sitting in her yard, almost swallowed up by the long blades of unmoved grass. She could see no signs of a collar. The poor thing looking up with sad, soulful eyes, a mixture of fear and pleading as it sat trembling.
