A Friend is Somone….

A friend is someone who gives

Without asking for anything in return.

A friend is some one who shares your pain

And gives you a shoulder to cry on.

A friend is honest with you

Not just telling you what you want to hear.

A friend is someone you always come back to

One who always returns to you.

A friend is there through thick and thin

No matter what passes between you.

A friend is to be cherished

For a true friend is priceless.

How You’d Feel

There’s the little boy with braces on his teeth,

That he doesn’t want to have

But all you can do is point and laugh at how funny he looks.

And the shy little girl who sits all alone,

Wishing someone would come up and say “Hi”

But you walk right past like she isn’t even there.

All you can do is point and laugh

And crack your funny jokes.

But do you ever stop and think about the suffering their going through?

Do you ask yourself How would you feel if it was you in their shoes?

She’s the lady on the street who stumbles as she walks

Cause she’s had a stroke or two

You point and laugh and ask yourself how much has she had?

And the man ahead in the checkout line struggling to write a check

His hands are shaking and trembling,

But all you can think is “What kind of drugs is he on?”

All you can do is point and laugh

And crack your funny jokes.

But do you ever stop and think about the suffering their going through?

Do you ask yourself How would you feel if it was you in their shoes?

An elderly man walks around all alone

He’s lost and he’s scared

Not even able to remember just where he’s from

An elderly woman shuffles along

Just trying to get through the door

She’s barely able to move, each step a chore

All you can do is point and laugh

And crack your funny jokes.

But do you ever stop and think about the suffering their going through?

Do you ask yourself How would you feel if it was you in their shoes?

We’ve all got a choice to make,

We can do the wrong thing or the right

And ask yourself How would you feel if it was you in their shoes?

Past and Future

Look forward to the future, but don’t forget the past….

Make new friends, but don’t forget the old…..

Make new mistakes, but learn from the old ones….

Always strive to learn & grow, but don’t forget what you have been taught….

Our past is what shapes us into the person we are today  as we go forward into the future of tomorrow.

Language

Language, at least in America, is a funny thing.  We are one of the few countries where one word can mean so many things.  Often times actual intent of what a person is saying can only be determined by face to face contact (or at least verbal – ex:  phone all).  Take for example the words  ”Yeah Okay”  Does that mean  Yes, OK I agree/I’ll do it or does it mean  ”Yeah Okay whatever  I don’t care”?  What about “Yeah Right”?  Is the person actually agreeing – “Yes, you’re right” or is it a sarcastic  statement?  So much of our language is based on body language and facial expressions to know what a person is actually saying.  So much is up to interpretation. It is no wonder that their are so many misunderstandings.

The Elderly Can Still Understand

Why is it that some people think that just because elderly people (if you’ll pardon the phrase) are hard of hearing and perhaps a little forgetful that they don’t have full use of their faculties??  Whenever an elderly person says “I don’t understand you” — meaning they aren’t able to hear what is being said. As soon as they say that, people act like the elderly person doesn’t understand what’s going on”… so on and so forth….
Just because a person is elderly doesn’t mean they’ve automatically lost their mind.  Their bodies may have slowed down,  Their hearing & vision may be diminished,  They might even forget things more & more……  But they can often still think for themselves and make their own decisions.  They just need some patience (Don’t we all??)
